Frequently Asked Questions

Baby on Grass
Q. Why do you target economically disadvantaged mothers?
A. Our milk donor services are available to all mothers with an approved prescription for donor milk. We simply target economically disadvantaged mothers from a marketing standpoint in order to address this underserved market.
Q. How do I receive donor milk?
A. A prescription is required. After paying the associated cost, the milk will be shipped to you while frozen.
Q. How do I donate milk.
A. A screening process is required that is similar to the screening process for donating blood. This process starts with a questionnaire, that is reviewed followed by a response that may require a doctor's visit or additional testing in order to ensure safety of donated milk. See the Milk page for more information
Q. How is the milk processed for safety.
A. Once the donor has passed a thorough health screening, the donated milk is thawed and analyzed to ensure the milk is specifically from the approved donor. The milk is then pooled with other milk for the pasteurization process to eliminate harmful bacteria. This process is followed by additional testing procedures to measure levels of carbohydrates, protein, other nutrients, and calorie levels.
Q. Is there a fee for the milk?
A. Yes, the fees cover the cost of shipping, pasteurizing and storing the milk. Our cost is $x.00 per ounce + shipping cost. There is a minimum order of X ounces required per order.
Q. Can I be compensated for donating milk?
A. No, we do do not pay for donor milk. As a not for profit organization, we primarily charge recipients for the cost of shipping, storing and processing the milk. This makes paying for breastmilk cost prohibitive. By donating breastmilk, you are assisting mothers with premature infants as well as otherwise healthy infants that may not be afforded the benefits of breastmilk without your assistance.
